Creepy looking I know, but this is only the valve body of a shower control in the wall behind the tile. But look at all that crusty white, green, and pink buildup inside. When it’s brand new, it’s shiny brass. Five years later, this is what it looks like.

It’s the water that does this, or more correctly, what’s in the water. And what’s in the water is what causes all the problems in your plumbing system.

In metro Atlanta, most of us get our water from the Chattahoochee River and it has to be treated before it comes pouring out of faucets. The bottom line is the water authorities put enough chlorine in the distribution system to kill deadly pathogens so we don’t die of Cholera, Legionnaires, Typhoid, Dysentery, etc.

But there are lots of minerals and other chemicals in the water, that though not deadly to us, eventually cause our plumbing to get sick and die. The cartridge in this shower control valve got sick and died, so we replaced it with a new one, which will last 4-5 years before it gets sick and dies. It’s mainly the chlorine that does it, but other hard water deposits contribute as well, as you can see in the photo.

Why do you drink bottled water? Hmm? Cause … you don’t like the taste of chlorine and maybe you think it’s bad for your body’s plumbing system? Did you know your body absorbs more chlorine during a daily shower through your skin than from drinking a few glasses of unfiltered water every day?

What if you could get clear clean water through your plumbing system just like filtered spring bottled drinking water, but a whole lot cheaper? You can!

There is a whole house filter that filters out chlorine and 80,000 other contaminants. It filters 2.5 million gallons of water and lasts 10 years before the filter media has to be replaced. This is a huge health benefit for you and your family at less than 1/2 cent per gallon. How much do you pay for a gallon of filtered drinking water? 60 cents a gallon at Walmart. Think about it, all your water filtered for bathing, clothes washing, drinking, etc. for less than 1/2 cent per gallon.

But there are unmeasurable benefits and savings beyond that low cost per gallon. There’s something called Opportunity Cost. Look at the photo again. The whole house filter I’m talking about would also filter out all the stuff that caused the crusty corrosion inside this valve and ruined the mostly plastic cartridge. All your plumbing fixtures would last much, much longer before needing repairs or replacements. How much saving in time and money is that worth?

Can you measure the return on investment? Health-wise, I think not. What is it worth to have really clean, safe drinking and bathing water?

The savings in plumbing repairs is just a bonus. You will be healthier. Your plumbing will be healthier. It’s just Plumb Smart.

This month only I’ll sell 5 filters only at my wholesale cost (about a $500 savings on what you can buy if online). I would need to do an in-home evaluation to determine where to locate the filter to determine an installation cost.
